The summer season of the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra returns from June to August
The 2024 summer of the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra will open on Friday 21 June , on the occasion of the Music Festival , at the Forte di Santa Tecla.
After that, the Sanremo Summer Symphony will return for the third consecutive year, born from the collaboration between the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra Foundation, the Matuzian Municipality and tourist operators to bring artists of national and international fame to the City of Flowers for a total of 14 shows at 9pm :30.
The Franco Alfano Auditorium will act as a suggestive setting, an open-air theater inside the Marsaglia Park, a real jewel reopened in 2021. New to the new edition will be the partnership with UnoJazz&Blues, the event organized by UnoEnergy, which will enrich the billboard with two special dates.
Summer 2024 program
Tony Hadley will begin on Monday 8 July with the Symphony conducted by Piero Romano. The singer bewitched audiences around the world first as the leader of Spandau Ballet and then with a brilliant solo career, being one of the greatest voices of the pop genre.
The show “Dedicated to Vittorio De Scalzi” will be staged on Saturday 13 July with the young talents of Area Sanremo and the Sinfonica led by Roberto Izzo. The idea is the result of Club Tenco together with Mara De Scalzi and Umberto Sergio, to remember it and discover new aspects thanks to the unforgettable songs written for Anna Oxa and Ornella Vanoni, the collaborations with Mogol, Umberto Bindi, Renato Zero and Fabrizio De André and the solo experience after the one with the New Trolls.
On Tuesday 16 July there will be the first appointment with "UnoJazz&Blues Festival" and Stacey Kent will take the stage with Valter Sivilotti conducting the Symphony. She is one of the most well-known and refined names on the contemporary jazz scene, capable of combining the swing of her American origins with European influences, so much so that she is much loved in France.
Saturday 20 July will be the turn of "Rhapsody in blue - An American in Paris" with Francesco Nicolosi, the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra and the National Jazz Orchestra of the Italian Conservatories, established in 2016 and made up of students enrolled in jazz courses. Giancarlo De Lorenzo is in charge. A highly impactful journey will be created through two masterpieces by the American composer George Gershwin.
Friday 26 July “Dee Dee Bridgwater meets Sinfonica di Sanremo” with maestro Angelo Valori. Dee Dee Bridgewater is a living legend of jazz and soul, winner of several Grammy and Tony Awards. He also has the merit of having constantly built bridges between different musical genres with a powerful voice and a magnetic stage presence.
On Wednesday 31 July Ghemon will perform in “Una cosetta cos'. It will not be a concert, nor a theatrical monologue nor even a comedy show, but a good mix of the various elements. Ghemon started with hip hop to build a unique style, which mixes soul, rap and Italian music. An evening designed to offer spectators something different from what they already know about him: personal stories told with irony, unreleased songs, unexpected covers and moments of deeper reflection.
Friday 2 August “Amii Stewart in Sinfonica” with maestro Valter Sivilotti. With her infectious charisma and exceptional talent, Amii Stewart has won the hearts of millions of fans around the world. A star of disco music, but also of theatre, of international and Italian music with "Thank you because" together with Gianni Morandi, collaborations with Eros Ramazzotti and participation in the Sanremo Festival.
On Monday 5 August Dario Vergassola will perform in “Pierino e il wolf” with the Symphony directed by Giancarlo De Lorenzo. An ever-present fairy tale, created in 1936 by Sergej Sergeevič Prokofiev for narrator and orchestra. “Pierino e il wolf” over time has brought many children and teenagers closer to music, simultaneously obtaining widespread approval from adults. Many illustrious names have tried their hand at the role of narrator: Benigni, De Filippo, Dalla, Elio and Marcorè. This year it will be Dario Vergassola's turn with his biting and self-deprecating style of a "romantic-depressed-anxious comedian".
On Friday 9 August Piero Romano will conduct “Ermal Meta & the Symphony”. Ermal Meta is a singer-songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist, winner of the Sanremo Festival paired with Fabrizio Moro in 2018 with the song "Non mi hai fatti niente" and has just released the new album "Buonafortuna". Last but not least he is fresh from the success of hosting the May Day demonstration in Rome.
On Sunday 11 August Sighanda will interpret the singer-songwriters of the Festival with Pino Jodice as director of the Symphony. An evening in collaboration with Club Tenco and dedicated to the great singer-songwriters who participated in the Italian Song Festival with an extraordinary Sicilian-Ticino performer: Dominique Fidanza, aka Sighanda.
On Tuesday 13 August there will be space for the a cappella vocal quintet Alti & Bassi with "The American myth" and the Symphony led by Ernesto Colombo. A journey that starts with gospel and spirituals through the main successes of the 30s; it develops by crossing musicals, from George Gershwin to Leonard Bernstein up to the 1950s; and arrives at the cinema with unforgettable songs from Walt Disney cartoons and the film "Saturday Night Fever".
Saturday 17 August “Igudesman & Joo Happy Concert” with the Symphony. It was the duo, also known through social media, Aleksey Igudesman on the violin and Hyung-ki Joo on the piano who titled this show "Happy Concert" with the aim of creating, step by step, an irrepressible increase in happiness in the audience to the point of immunizing him from problems... at least for the duration of the concert!
The second appointment with "UnoJazz&Blues Festival" will be held on Tuesday 20 August with the saxophonist Francesco Cafiso and his quartet, who will revive the famous 1950s project "Charlie Parker With Strings". The historic repertoire includes: “Summertime”, “I'm in the mood for love”, “Laura”, “Just friends” and many other pure jazz masterpieces. The Symphony will have Valter Sivilotti as director.
Friday 23 August grand finale with “Brazil” and Gerardo Estrada Martínez, Venezuelan violinist and percussionist, conducting the Symphony. Spectators will be involved in a sparkling journey through twentieth-century Latin music, from Caribbean and Cuban rhythms to Mexican folklore to the legendary figures of the Argentine gauchos of the pampas.
