Major international regattas in Sanremo

Sanremo will combine sea and elegance with the first edition of the Grandi Regate Internazionali , which will take place from Thursday 29 to Saturday 31 May 2025. With this event, organized by the prestigious Yacht Club Sanremo, the City of Flowers will host a re-enactment of vintage sailing between adrenaline-filled competitions, maritime culture and local gastronomy.

It will be like taking a dip into the past, admiring fine wooden hulls and majestic sails , in an atmosphere that will bring the noble spirit of gentleman yachting back to life: this is how Beppe Zaoli, President of the Yacht Club Sanremo, presented the Grandi Regate Internazionali, which will start for the first time this weekend in the leading location of Western Liguria. It will be a three-day event focused on classic sailing , during which high-profile sport and culture and conviviality will intertwine in one of the most fascinating environments in the entire Mediterranean.

An exceptional fleet is expected, made up of numerous historic boats , divided into the Vintage, Classic, Open, Classic IOR, Sangermani and Swan groups based on their different characteristics and dimensions as well as the year of launch. Here are some of the leading names, who have already given their adhesion: Tuiga (1909) and Mariska (1908), two authentic queens of the Yacht Club de Monaco; Vistona (1937), a gaff cutter that was restored in Sardinia from 2001 to 2004 by master shipwright Marco Bonacina; from the Sangermani shipyards Masa Yume, Oliria and Sandra (1972); Crivizza (1966) with Gigi Rolandi on board, President of the Italian Vintage Sails Association (AIVE); Greylag (1932) and the first Moro di Venezia (1976); the Pilgrim, over 50 years old, of the owner Emmanuele Dalla Vecchia, just 26 years old, heir to his father Pippo; and Triboulet (1987), a Swan designed by Ron Holland for the Yacht Classic RH fleet. The Navy will be present with Stella Polare, Penelope and Tarantella (1969), in homage to the naval tradition of our country.

Not just regattas! As evidence that sailing is not just a high-level competitive sport, but also a concrete example of the possibility of socializing and mutual respect, every afternoon the crews will be able to enjoy an aperitif in Piazza Bresca , the living room of Sanremo's nightlife. They will be convivial moments, of exchanging human and sporting experiences and entertainment on land. The grand finale on Saturday evening with the official dinner reserved for participants, followed by a concert and a fireworks display.

One of the Yacht Club Sanremo's symbolic events will also return: Vela & Sapori , which will be an integral part of the event. On Friday 30 May each boat will have to prepare a themed dish to propose to the gastronomic jury led by Claudio Porchia, President of the Associazione Ristoranti della Tavolozza. A show cooking by the chefs of the starred restaurants Osteria del Marinaio and Paolo & Barbara will follow.

The Great International Regattas, in addition, will celebrate our territory. The Yacht Club Sanremo, in fact, will organize the event in collaboration with the Circolo Velico Capo Verde, the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV) and AIVE. And they will be included in the official calendar of Liguria European Region of Sport 2025. According to Umberto Zocca, Commodore of the Yacht Club Sanremo, this shows that even classic sailing can be an effective tool for enhancing this corner of Liguria. Finally, the three-day event will enjoy the patronage of the Municipality of Matuzia and the support of sponsors of the caliber of Abate Gioiellieri dal 1920, Casinò di Sanremo and Cantieri degli Aregai.
