Milan-Sanremo 2026

The 117th edition of the Milan-Sanremo road cycling race will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026 , at the start of spring. This will start in Pavia for the third consecutive year. The professional race, also known as the Classicissima di Primavera , traditionally covers a distance of approximately 290 km, making it one of the longest single-day races. Since it began way back in 1907, it is also considered one of the "historic races." The first edition was held on March 19, the feast of St. Joseph and Father, and was won by Frenchman Lucien Petit-Breton. In 2025, the "Flying Dutchman" Mathieu van der Poel, born in 1995, of the Alpecin-Premier Tech team, triumphed. The race will count towards the 2026 UCI World Tour, and the women's championship will be contested on the same day. Two other highly anticipated and unmissable events will be the Granfondo Sanremo-Sanremo on Sunday 22 March and the amateur Milan-Sanremo on Sunday 7 June .

The Classicissima di Primavera enjoys great competitive prestige among athletes in Italy and abroad and is closely followed by a passionate and curious crowd, who will stay in the City of Flowers to witness the finish line live. Finding the best hotel accommodations for the Milan-Sanremo now will allow you to take advantage of the event 's rich program of side events . Throughout the weekend, the focus will be on two wheels and our cycle path, among the longest in Europe, which runs along the coast for over 24 km.

To make the competition between participants more intense, the race even more exciting for spectators, and the outcome unpredictable until the final sprint 2 or 3 km from the Poggio descent (depending on the location of the finish line, which has been on Via Roma since 2015), the toughest and most important sections will remain unchanged, both located near the City of Flowers: the Cipressa hill (length 5,650 m, elevation gain 234 m, average gradient 4.1% and maximum 9%) and the Poggio hill (length 3,700 m, elevation gain 136 m, average gradient 3.7% and maximum 8%). For this reason, the Municipality of Matuzia and ANAS will have to collaborate to resolve the construction site in the Vesca area of the Strada Statale 1 Aurelia, which is located right at the Poggio climb.
